Stay Healthy While Studying Abroad
Studying abroad is one of the most exciting and enriching opportunities you’ll have during your college journey. As you prepare for your time overseas, taking steps to protect your health will help ensure your experience is not only memorable — but safe and successful.
Plan Ahead for a Healthy Trip
To get the most out of your study abroad experience, it’s important to research health considerations in your host country and take any recommended precautions early. This includes receiving any required or recommended vaccinations on schedule.
As soon as your travel plans are confirmed:
-
Review the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) travel destination pages to learn about potential health risks, required immunizations, and country-specific health tips.
-
Schedule a visit with the St. Thomas Travel Clinic to receive personalized advice, travel medications, and immunizations tailored to your destination.
-
Begin preparing at least 4–6 weeks before departure to ensure you have time for vaccines that require multiple doses.
