Biking to St. Thomas

Riding a bicycle is an excellent way to get to and from campus - it's inexpensive, environmentally friendly, and a great form of exercise. Minnesota has miles of paved bicycle trails. No matter which direction you are coming from, you will be sure to find a bike route to use that gets you to either campus.

Bicycle Parking

Bicycle racks are located throughout north, center and south campus, including secured bike storage (bike cages) in:

  • Anderson Parking Facility (APF) - level 1
  • Resident students:
    • Schoenecker Hall North (SHN) Garage
    • Morrison Hall Garage (R2 level)
    • Frey Residence Hall (main level & east end)

Employees can request access to these specific bike storage locations by contacting Residence Life (reslife@stthomas.edu).

Please note:

  • Bikes that appear to be abandoned will be given a warning tag and if unclaimed will be removed by Public Safety.
  • Bikes may only be locked to official bike racks.
  • Bikes not locked to an official bike rack (including but not limited to trees, railings, signposts, etc.) may be subject to removal at the discretion of the Facilities Management or Public Safety.
  • Bike storage lockers are available on a first come, first served basis, and are accessible using a St. Thomas ID card. There is no charge to store bicycles; users will need to supply their own locks.

There are many bicycle racks on campus, often near the entrance of buildings. If there is not a rack right next to the door you intend to use, look at another entrance to the building.

Unfortunately, bicycle thieves do target college campuses. We recommend the U-lock bicycle lock to secure your bike.

Bike Repair Stations & Bike Wash Station

Bike repair stations are located on both campuses:

  • Near the bike racks on the south side of O'Shaughnessy Stadium
  • Near the bike racks outside the west entrance of Owens Science Hall
  • Inside the secure bike storage in Frey Residence Hall (only accessible to resident students)
  • Inside the secure bike storage in Schoenecker Hall North (only accessible to resident students)
  • A Bike Wash station is located in the Frey Parking Garage (east end, level 1)

Motorcycle and Moped/Scooter Parking

Motorcycles and mopeds/scooters require permits to park on campus and must be parked only in designated areas. Areas include:

  • Anderson Parking Facility (APF) - level 1 (no overnight parking)
  • the Northeast and Northwest corners "striped-off" areas in Lot A (no overnight parking except Friday 6pm through Sunday 10pm)
  • the Northwest corner "striped-off" area in Lot B - (no overnight parking)
  • Resident students - R2 South to park in the designated Motorcycle Parking area.

Motorcycles and scooters:

  • may not park at bike racks or any non-designated motorcycle or scooter parking area.
  • may not park in regular parking lot spaces or be operated on sidewalks at any time.
  • Motorcycles or scooters without permits or visitors may pay by the hour to park in the Anderson Parking Facility (APF).
