Economic Tools for Policy and Business LLC
Economic Tools for Policy and Business LLC: A Brief Introduction
Economics is a social science discipline that develops valuable, cross-functional skills in critical thinking and problem-solving. Economics offers a powerful framework for thinking like a changemaker, regardless of the context in which it is applied.
Students majoring in economics acquire analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills that they bring to various careers, making it a good combination with many different majors. Whether students are drawn to business, healthcare, law, public policy, data science, or a range of other fields and industries, training in economics will be an asset.
Wondering why you should join our LLC?
Begin your team at UST with a solid foundation.
The Economic Tools for Policy & Business Living Learning Community ("Econ Tools LLC" for short) gives students the edge when it comes to building relationships with other students, alumni, faculty, and staff. Throughout the semester, the LLC offers activities planned and tailored specifically to our students, both in and out of the classroom, focusing on providing both social and professional networking opportunities. We do more than teach; we advocate, guide, and champion our students. Just ask a few of our students:
- "My LLC community was all about community. I was very close with my RA and professor for the LLC. Overall, it was a great experience."
- "My LLC has allowed me to connect with tons of students who are planning on entering the same workplace. It has also allowed for friendly connections to be made and remembered while helping the transition from high school to college stay smooth."
A built-in community
Your Econ Tools LLC becomes your community and support system on campus. The cohort lives together in Schoenecker Hall North (formally Tommie North), and the Economics Principals courses, led by one of the three faculty mentors, are reserved exclusively for members of the LLC. This structure very naturally leads to forming strong friendships and bonds with your fellow students, not only on a social level, but as a resources for studying and coursework.
Flexibility to follow your passions.
Over the past three years, our Economics students have pursued double majors in the wide range of fields, including Accounting, Acturail Science, Finance, French, General Business, International Business, Justice & Peace Studies, Marketing, Mathematics, Philosophy, and Political Science. Our minors also come from the diverse set of majors, highlighting the economics degree flexibility and relevance across disciplines.
Furthermore, according to the UST First Destinations Survey, economics is one of the top-earning majors at the º£½Ç¹Ù·½Ê×Ò³. Thomas.

What Econ Tools LLC students staid about their experience:
- "Being able to move in early, as an entire LLC, allowed me to make connections with many of the residents on the floor. We were some of the only students on campus and I was able to form many friendships in those first few days within my LLC."
- "I have been able to develop a close relationship with my professor because she teaches my LLC class and we spent a lot of time together on the Mississippi River kayaking trip. It is great to have someone I know in the Econ department and around campus in general and she is very invested in our success."
- "A lot of the guys on my floor will sometimes go and play basketball after our LLC class, because we all walk back together and talk. It's been a great way to get to know the people on my floor better."
- "I built friendships with the people on my floor and I feel a sense of connection to my professors."
